Personas
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I was designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was a busy college student who did not have time to wait in line at movie theatres.
Research confirmed that the target users are those who have a cell phone, have the ability to pay, and are over 18 years old. Research also revealed that time was a factor in limiting users from purchasing snacks. Other user problems included lines and kids making it difficult to want to purchase snacks.
Zareen
Problem statement: Zareen is a busy college student who needs easy access to snacks at movie theaters because she does not have time to wait in line.

Age: 22
Education: College student
Hometown: Tampa, FL
Family: Parents, 2 sisters
Occupation: Engineer intern
“Don’t have time to wait! Where’s my app? ”
Goals
●Finish college and get a good job
●Spend free time with friends
●Go to movies as much as possible
Frustrations
●Super busy so don’t have much time
●Hate waiting in line for things
●Wish more things were done by phone apps
User journey map
Mapping Zarren’s user journey revealed how helpful it would be for users to have access to a dedicated snack ordering app

Paper wireframes
Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points. For the home screen, I prioritized a quick and easy ordering process to help users save time

Digital wireframes
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research. Easy navigation was a key user need to address in the designs in addition to equipping the app to work

Users are able to go back to the menu screen
Users are able to input special orders or requests

This button leads th user to find their movie theatre location, date and time
The banner at bottom makes it easy for user to navigate through the app

Usability Study
I conducted 2 rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockup need refining.
Round 1 findings
Users want more customization options on the page for finding movie times and dates
Users want better flow on the selecting movie page
Users want more information on importance of points on the profile page
Round 2 findings
Easier way to see which buttons are highlighted with uniformity
Drop down calendar small and hard to read
Names of buttons/categories more user friendly
Mockups

High-fidelity prototype
The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for ordering and checkout. It also met needs for more accessible date and time and more appealing button/menu names.

Accessibility considerations: Include considerations about color combinations, and icons to help make navigation easier. Provide access to users who are vision impaired by adding alt text to images for screen readers
Impact:
The app was easy to use and really add the convenience factor and saves time.
Quote: " I like your visual design." "Easy to use-makes sense."
What I learned:
While designing the app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. Iterations and feedback are needed to improve quality and user experience.
Next steps:
Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.
Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need
